FAQ's - Sugaring

WHAT IS SUGARING?

Sugaring is an ancient form of hair removal said to have been used by Cleopatra. It is a sticky paste made with natural ingredients: sugar, lemon juice and water. Our freehand method is safe and hygienic for all skin types and the sugar paste is never re-used. The Esthetician will apply the sugar paste by hand against the hair growth and remove it with the hair growth. This drastically reduces the occurrence of hair breakage, ingrown hairs and allows the sugar paste to grab and remove small harder to grab hairs.

WHY DOES TRADITIONAL WAXING USE CHEMICALS BUT SUGARING DOES NOT?

Most hair removal waxes (both hard wax and soft wax) have added chemicals to make them smell a certain way or to help with sensitive skin, etc these added ingredients can be allergenic for some people.

DOES SUGARING BURN?

Since sugar paste is used at room temperature, there is no possibility of being burned.

Anyone who has been bumed by hot wax during a Iraditional waxing can allest to how uncomfortable that is.

DOES SUGARING LEAVE YOUR SKIN RED LIKE THAT OF TRADITIONAL WAXING?

Sugar paste only adheres to hair and dead skin cells. The sugaring process will not remove live skin as with traditional wax, meaning no more redness after treatment.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE AND AFTER THE SUGARING SESSION?

Sugar paste is safe for all skin lypes, even very sensitive skin. Sugar only adheres to the hair and not live skin cells. therefore only dead skin cells will be removed, causing a gentle exfoliation. Due to this we ask you not to exfoliate the area to be sugared for one to two days prior to your service. You should also avoid using any creams or lotions on the day of your appointment.

Between appointments it is important to keep the sugared areas exfoliated and moisturized, although again, please do not exfoliate 24-48 hours prior to your appointment.

Things to avoid for 12-24 hours after your appointment:

  • Perfumes
  • Scented creams/lotions
  • Heat, such as baths/steam rooms
  • Let this be your excuse to skip going to the gym!
  • Direct sunlight or tanning beds
  • Deodorant if you had your underarms sugared
  • Before a face sugaring appointment. keep your face clear of moisturizer, powder, makeup and lotion
